Russia and Ukraine reported fighting along their front line on Monday, accusing each other of drone and artillery strikes, despite a US-mediated ceasefire. The ceasefire, agreed upon Friday for May 9-11 as part of a US-led peace push under President Donald Trump, showed signs of strain on Sunday.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated Moscow avoided large-scale aerial and missile attacks but continued assaults along parts of the 1,200km front line where Russian forces are advancing. Ukrainian troops are responding and defending positions. Russia’s defense ministry reported 23,802 ceasefire violations by Ukraine since May 9, with Russian troops responding to Ukrainian attacks on rocket launchers, artillery, and drone-launch sites. One person was killed and three wounded in a Ukrainian attack on Russia’s Belgorod region.
Ukraine’s military general staff recorded 180 battlefield clashes over 24 hours, noting Russian forces used «kamikaze» drones and artillery. They reported 38 new assaults on Ukrainian positions and continued artillery shelling of border areas. At least three people were killed in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. The EU imposed sanctions on 16 individuals and seven entities in Russia for the unlawful deportation of Ukrainian children.
