Over 2,100 Applications for Farmer Fuel Scheme in First Week
Over 2,100 applications were submitted to the Government's farmer fuel support scheme in its first week. Launched last Wednesday, the scheme offers farmers about 20c per litre, with a €100 minimum, following recent fuel protests. Payments are due by the end of June, with a similar scheme planned for hauliers.
More than 2,100 applications have been submitted to the Government's fuel support scheme for farmers and agricultural contractors within its inaugural week. The scheme, which commenced last Wednesday, recorded 1,570 applications within its initial 72 hours.
These supports were introduced following last month's fuel protests, which notably included the blockade of Ireland's sole oil refinery at Whitegate in County Cork. Farmers are anticipated to receive approximately 20 cents per litre under the scheme, with a guaranteed minimum payment of €100.
Payments to applicants will be calculated once all claims have been submitted. Currently, no maximum payment limit has been established, pending officials' assessment of the total number of applicants. All payments are scheduled for disbursement by the end of June.
Concurrently, the Department of Transport is preparing to launch a similar scheme for hauliers, with drivers of construction vehicles also expected to qualify for support.
