Zelenskyy: Ukraine Submitted 1000-Person Exchange Lists to Russia, Awaits US Guarantees

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine submitted lists of 1000 individuals for prisoner exchange to Russia. He expects the US, which mediated the agreement, to ensure its implementation. This follows Putin's earlier claim that Ukraine had not submitted any proposals.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Ukrainian side has submitted lists of 1000 individuals for prisoner exchange to the Russian Federation and expects American partners to ensure the fulfillment of these agreements with the Russian Federation.

In his address on Sunday evening, Zelenskyy noted: «Our contacts with the American side regarding guarantees for the implementation of the recently reached agreements, which the US President spoke about, are currently ongoing. The exchange of 1000 prisoners for 1000 is being prepared and must be carried out. The Americans undertook these guarantees. The Ukrainian coordination headquarters has submitted the lists for 1000 to the Russian side. There was American mediation in this exchange agreement – accordingly, we expect the American side to be active in ensuring the fulfillment of these agreements».

This statement came after Russian ruler Vladimir Putin claimed at a briefing on the evening of May 9 that no proposals for prisoner exchange had allegedly been received from the Ukrainian side.

Earlier, on May 8, US President Donald Trump announced a three-day truce in the war between Ukraine and the Russian Federation. On May 9, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed Trump's statement about a truce with the Russian Federation from May 9-10-11 and announced a prisoner exchange in the 1000 for 1000 format. By his decree, Zelenskyy also «allowed» Russia to hold a parade for May 9 within the framework of the truce. Russia, in turn, agreed to support Trump's initiative for a truce with Ukraine from May 9 to 11 and to conduct the exchange.
