Verivox Poll: Two-Thirds of Germans Saving Energy Due to Price Hikes and Iran War
Due to the war in Iran and rising oil prices, two-thirds of Germans are saving energy. A Verivox poll shows people are reducing electricity, heating, and hot water consumption, and increasingly avoiding cars. 27% haven't changed habits, citing already high energy efficiency.
Approximately two-thirds of Germans have actively started saving energy. The primary reasons for this are the war in Iran and a significant increase in oil prices, which affects the overall cost of energy resources.
The results of a survey commissioned by the Verivox portal were published by Tagesschau, as also reported by «European Pravda». According to the data, 56% of respondents consciously avoid leaving electrical appliances in standby mode, and 52% deliberately reduce overall electricity consumption. Furthermore, 55% of those surveyed are cutting heating costs, and 47% are saving hot water.
Changes in behavior are also observed in the transport sector: 48% of Germans more often forgo using their cars due to high fuel prices. Instead, 29% of respondents more frequently use bicycles, and 24% have switched to public transport.
At the same time, 27% of those surveyed stated that they had not changed their energy consumption habits. Most of them explained this by having already achieved a high level of energy efficiency and seeing no additional opportunities for savings. It is worth noting that on April 30, the European Commission reported no fuel and gas shortages in the EU, despite the ongoing war in the Middle East. Recently, German Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder spoke out against speed limits on motorways as a measure to reduce fuel demand.
