Ukraine to Receive €30 Billion from EU in 2026 for Drones, Missiles, Air Defense
In 2026, Ukraine will receive €30 billion from an EU loan for drones, ammunition, missiles, and air defense systems. Funds will cover 2.8 million Ukrainian-made drones and other armaments. The EU expects contracts to go to Ukrainian and European manufacturers.
In 2026, Ukraine will receive €30 billion from the €90 billion EU loan to support its military. These funds will be allocated for the procurement of drones, ammunition, missiles, including long-range ones, and air defense systems.
Overall, €60 billion out of the €90 billion EU loan is designated for the Ukrainian army, split equally between 2026 and 2027. The first tranche in 2026 will amount to €5.9 billion and will be used to purchase 2.8 million Ukrainian-made drones, with an average cost of approximately €2,000 per unit. Another approximately €6 billion will be allocated for unmanned aerial vehicles, including strike drones capable of hitting targets at significant depths.
Procurement of ammunition, missiles, including long-range ones, and air defense systems is also planned. The European Commission expects Ukraine to submit four product schedules for approval in May 2026 to expedite contract finalization. A contentious point is Ukraine's desire to procure products mainly from Ukrainian manufacturers or outside the EU, while the European Union expects contracts to be awarded to Ukrainian and European manufacturers.
