Dublin Airport Prepares for Busiest Summer Ever with 11 Million Passengers Expected

Dublin Airport expects its busiest summer, with over 11 million passengers from June to August, a 300,000 increase from last year. New facilities and C3 scanning technology have been introduced. The airport seeks to remove a 32 million passenger cap to utilize its 40 million annual capacity.

Dublin Airport anticipates its busiest summer, expecting over 11 million passengers between June and August, an increase of approximately 300,000 from last summer. Daily passenger numbers are projected to exceed 100,000, likely surpassing the previous record of 130,427 on August 10, 2025. Managing Director Gary McLean confirmed no short-term impact on fuel supplies due to the Middle East situation.

Improvements include a new Phoenix Lounge in Terminal 1, doubling capacity to 300 people, and a new upstairs Fast Track facility. C3 scanning technology is fully implemented in both terminals, removing the 100ml liquid limit and allowing up to two litres in hand luggage without removal during security. Passengers should check return airport liquid rules. The airport aims to maintain 95% of passengers clearing security in under 20 minutes this year, following 97% in 2025.

Dublin Airport has an annual capacity for 40 million passengers but faces a 32 million passenger cap from 2007 planning legislation. The cap is currently suspended, and the government is committed to its removal, though legislation is pending. Passenger numbers rose by 9% in Q1 due to lifted winter slot restrictions and continued a slower increase in April, with a 2% rise expected for peak summer months. The airport offers 190 destinations via over 40 airlines with 2,700 weekly flights this summer. A team will also plan for Ireland's EU Presidency in H2 2026.
