MFA urges world to save over 6,000 Kherson residents, including 200 children, from humanitarian catastrophe

Ukraine's MFA urges the world to save over 6,000 residents, including 200 children, in occupied Kherson Oblast from a humanitarian catastrophe. In Oleshky, Hola Prystan, and Zburivka, basic living conditions are absent, and occupiers block aid and evacuation. Ukraine has begun consultations with the UN and the Red Cross.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine calls on the international community for immediate action to save Ukrainian citizens in temporarily occupied Kherson Oblast, where a humanitarian catastrophe has developed due to the actions of Russian occupiers violating international humanitarian law. Particular concern is raised by the situation in Oleshky, Hola Prystan, Stara Zburivka, and Nova Zburivka, where basic living conditions are absent.

Russian occupiers block people's exit and the supply of food and medicine. The population of Oleshky has decreased from 24,000 to 2,000, and in the region overall from 40,000 to 6,000 people. Critical infrastructure is destroyed, and there is no electricity or gas supply. Over 6,000 people, including about 200 children, need humanitarian aid, many of whom are mobility-impaired. Over 220 direct requests for evacuation from these settlements have been received by state bodies.

The MFA has initiated consultations with the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross regarding the rescue of citizens. Ukraine calls on international partners to pressure Russia to comply with humanitarian law and create evacuation corridors. The critical humanitarian situation will be raised at UN and OSCE platforms, and information on Russian crimes will be submitted to international monitoring missions.
