An Post CWU Members Approve Two-Year 5.08% Pay Deal, €650 Voucher

An Post employees, represented by the CWU, have approved a two-year pay deal offering a 5.08% increase and a €650 voucher. The agreement, effective from January 2026, was supported by 86.7% of members. The union now urges the government to address broader inflationary costs for workers.

Members of the Communications Workers' Union (CWU) at An Post have overwhelmingly approved a two-year pay agreement, which includes a 5.08% salary increase.

The deal, effective from January 1, 2026, and concluding on December 31, 2027, outlines a phased increase: 2% commencing January 1, 2026; an additional 1% from July 1, 2026; and a final 2% from January 1, 2027. Additionally, a €650 voucher, pro-rated for part-time employees, will be distributed in October 2026. A key condition of the agreement is the prohibition of any new cost-increasing claims during its two-year term.

The CWU reported that 86.7% of returned ballots from its members supported the agreement. Seán McDonagh, CWU General Secretary, welcomed the approval, stating, «The approval of our members at An Post for this agreement is very welcome.»

McDonagh further emphasized the union's shift in focus, noting, «While it will provide certainty in earnings terms, our union’s focus now turns to the obligations on Government to respond to the higher inflationary costs for workers fueled by recent budgets, and the Government’s willingness to cave-in to sectoral demands instead of a fairer and broader response to support workers and their families. In this regard, we fully support the demands of ICTU.»
