Labour Party Tables Bill for Three-Year Ban on No-Fault Evictions
The Labour Party is introducing a Bill today to ban no-fault evictions for three years. This move addresses record homelessness, with 17,517 people in emergency accommodation, and aims to provide stability for renters amid a failing market. Housing spokesperson Conor Sheehan calls for immediate parliamentary support.
The Labour Party will table a Bill today proposing a three-year ban on no-fault evictions. This action comes as Ireland faces record homelessness figures, with 17,517 people, including 5,571 children, currently in emergency accommodation.
Housing spokesperson Conor Sheehan stated that the Bill aims to provide immediate protection and stability for renters. He highlighted a 41% increase in termination notices at the end of last year, indicating a failing rental market. Sheehan emphasized that the legislation is practical, targeted, and necessary, mirroring emergency measures from the pandemic, as the current situation for renters is equally severe. He urged all TDs to support the Bill.
