Video Falsely Claims 90% of Ukrainians in Ireland are Unemployed; Actual Rate is 34.5%

A viral video falsely claims 90% of Ukrainians in Ireland are unemployed. Official data shows 34.5% are employed, or 45% of adults. Misinformation often targets Ukrainians regarding state costs and entitlements.

A video widely viewed over 127,000 times on Facebook and 147,000 times on Instagram since April 30, makes false claims about Ukrainians in Ireland, including that 90% are unemployed.

Central Statistics Office data from February 2026 shows 84,100 Ukrainians in Ireland. Of these, 29,060 had recorded earnings, representing 34.5% of the total. Excluding the 19,515 under-18s, approximately 45% of adult Ukrainians are employed. This figure, while higher than Ireland's overall employment rate of 52%, is significantly lower than the video's 90% unemployment claim. English language skills are a noted barrier to employment for many Ukrainians.

Ukrainians in Ireland are frequently targets of misinformation, often exaggerating their cost to the state or making false comparisons with Irish citizens' entitlements. The government announced plans in late April to withdraw accommodation for Ukrainian refugees.
