UK Sanctions 35 Individuals and Entities on May 5 for Migrant Recruitment and Drone Production for Russia

On May 5, the UK sanctioned 35 individuals and entities. They are involved in recruiting migrants for the war in Ukraine and producing drones for Russia. The sanctions aim to stop the exploitation of vulnerable people and the supply of components for Russia's military needs.

On May 5, the United Kingdom announced sanctions against 35 individuals and organizations involved in recruiting migrants for Russia's war in Ukraine and producing drones. The British government stated that the sanctions target those engaged in human trafficking to send migrants to the front lines, as well as companies supplying products to Russian drone manufacturing plants.

The networks sanctioned by Britain deceptively recruited foreign migrants seeking a better life, sending them to the front lines or forcing them to work in factories. This includes Russia's «Alabuga Start» drone production program. The sanctions list also includes individuals and legal entities from third countries, notably Thailand and China, responsible for supplying drone components and other critical military goods to Russia.

Pavel Nikitin, whose company develops the Russian VT-40 drone, was sanctioned. Also sanctioned were three individuals involved in recruiting people for the war on Russia's side, including Polina Azarnykh, who, with Russian support, facilitated the transport of individuals from countries like Egypt, Iraq, Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeria, Morocco, Syria, and Yemen to Russia, from where they were sent to the front lines.

UK Sanctions Minister Stephen Doughty stated that exploiting vulnerable people to support Russia's failing and illegal war in Ukraine is barbaric. These sanctions expose and disrupt the activities of those who traffic migrants as «cannon fodder» and supply Putin's drone factories with illegal components.
