Canada to Contribute $200 Million to PURL Program for Ukraine's Arms Procurement
Canada will contribute $200 million to the PURL program for procuring American weapons for Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this after a meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney. This contribution aims to strengthen Ukraine's and Europe's air defense.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a new contribution from Canada totaling $200 million to the program for the procurement of American weapons for Ukraine, known as PURL.
Zelenskyy shared this information on X, referencing a meeting in the Washington format held on the sidelines of the European Political Community summit in Yerevan. During the meeting, discussions focused on strengthening air defense, including the production of necessary European systems and missiles, support for the PURL program, and opportunities to provide Europe with its own anti-ballistic capabilities.
President Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to Canada for this contribution, noting that Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the additional $200 million before their meeting.
Previously, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that three more countries joined the PURL program at the end of April during an informal summit of European Union countries. Prior to this, Ukraine's Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov also reported that several countries announced new contributions to the PURL scheme during a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group.
