Convicted Killer Derek Moore Granted Travel Abroad Before Sentencing for Dangerous Driving

Convicted killer Derek Moore, 43, was granted permission to travel abroad for a week despite Garda objections, ahead of his June 29 sentencing for dangerous driving causing serious harm. He pleaded guilty to severely injuring Ukrainian grandmother Valentyna Linck on May 27, 2022, and has 44 prior convictions.

Derek Moore, a convicted killer awaiting sentencing for dangerous driving causing serious harm, has been granted permission to travel abroad for a one-week family holiday despite Garda objections.

Moore, 43, of Champions Avenue, Dublin 1, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing serious harm to Valentyna Linck on May 27, 2022, at Amiens Street. He also admitted two counts of dangerous driving and one count of driving under the influence of an intoxicant. His speed before striking Ms. Linck was assessed at 150-158 km/hr. Ms. Linck, a Ukrainian grandmother, suffered severe facial and head injuries, fractures, a stroke, and a brain bleed, leading to a month-long coma and multiple surgeries. She now experiences constant pain, facial scarring, and reduced independence.

Moore is due to be sentenced on June 29 by Judge Pauline Codd, who previously indicated a custodial sentence is likely. Sentencing was adjourned to allow Moore to undergo detoxification for benzodiazepines and start medication for newly diagnosed ADHD. Detective Garda Shane Noone objected to the travel, citing Moore's serious pending sentence and the injured party's anxiety for the case to conclude. However, Judge Orla Crowe noted Moore's past compliance with bail conditions and previous travel permissions, relaxing the conditions for his trip. Moore has 44 prior convictions, including for manslaughter and eight for dangerous driving.
