GoCar adds €2 fuel surcharge to rentals amid rising Irish fuel prices

GoCar, owned by Europcar, is adding a €2 fuel surcharge to new bookings due to rising fuel prices. The company, which has over 1,000 vehicles nationwide since 2008, calls it a short-term measure. Motorists are warned not to expect immediate price drops despite the excise cut.

GoCar, owned by Europcar, is adding a temporary €2 fuel surcharge to all new bookings due to the impact of the global conflict on Irish fuel prices. GoCar, which allows users to rent cars for short periods of time with fees starting from €9 an hour, has a nationwide fleet of over 1,000 vehicles since arriving in Ireland in 2008.

The company stated that it aims to keep pricing fair but that situations outside its control occur. It described the surcharge as a short-term measure to cover external costs and committed to removing the fee when fuel prices stabilize.

Motorists have been told not to expect immediate price drops despite the 10 cent excise cut, with warnings that fuel prices are continuing to climb. Fuels for Ireland CEO Kevin McPartlan said the excise reduction may not be reflected immediately at every forecourt.
