Kerrygold Butter 65% More Expensive in Ireland Than Germany
Kerrygold butter is 65% more expensive in Ireland than Germany, costing €13.17/kg versus €7.96/kg. This discrepancy is due to German retailers using aggressive promotions, with the current low price at Lidl Germany being a temporary offer.
Kerrygold butter is currently 65 per cent more expensive in Ireland than in Germany. A 250g pack of Kerrygold sells for €1.99 at Lidl in Germany, equating to €7.96 per kilogram. In contrast, Irish supermarkets sell a 227g pack for €2.99, which is €13.17 per kilogram.
The 454g size in Ireland costs €4.99, or €10.99 per kilogram, still 38 per cent higher than the German price. Ornua, the co-op producing Kerrygold, stated that retailers determine final prices. Lidl Ireland explained that it uses various price promotions across countries as part of its strategy.
German retailers, particularly Lidl, employ aggressive butter pricing and heavy discounts to attract customers, with Kerrygold often featured due to its market-leading position. The €1.99 price in German Lidls is a weeklong promotion and is expected to return to its normal price of €3.49 per 250g, comparable to Irish prices, over the weekend.
