EU Carbon Tariff Could Cost Ukraine $6 Billion GDP, Thousands of Jobs by 2030

The European Union's new carbon tariff is projected to impose significant economic costs on Ukraine, potentially reducing its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by $6 billion and eliminating tens of thousands of industrial jobs by the year 2030.

This economic impact stems from the implementation of the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which aims to level the playing field for European industries by imposing a carbon levy on imports from countries with less stringent climate policies. Ukrainian industries, particularly those in energy-intensive sectors, are expected to face increased costs, affecting their competitiveness in the EU market.
