Von der Leyen: Ukraine to Receive €6 Billion from EU for Drones in Q2 2026
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen confirmed that Ukraine will receive the first defense package of €6 billion from the EU's €90 billion loan. These funds will be allocated for Ukrainian drones and disbursed in Q2 2026. This underscores the European Union's strengthened support for Ukraine.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that the first defense package for Ukraine, part of a €90 billion loan, will be disbursed in the current quarter. It will amount to approximately €6 billion and will be allocated for Ukrainian drones.
Speaking at the plenary session of the European Parliament on April 29, Ursula von der Leyen confirmed the EU's intention to disburse the first €6 billion tranche of the €90 billion loan to Ukraine in Q2 2026. She stated: «In spring, we said we would provide a €90 billion loan for Ukraine, one way or another. Now we have delivered on that promise. We will disburse the first tranche of €45 billion for 2026, still this quarter».
The official reiterated that one-third of the €90 billion EU loan will go towards Ukraine's budgetary needs, and two-thirds will be for Ukraine's defense. «The first defense package will concern drones from Ukraine for Ukraine, worth approximately €6 billion», – confirmed the President of the European Commission. She also assured that the European Union «will continue to support the brave Ukrainian people and their armed forces», adding: «While Russia doubles down on its aggression, Europe doubles down on our support for Ukraine».
Earlier, «European Pravda» reported, citing its own sources in Brussels, that the first «military» tranche of the €90 billion EU loan for Ukraine would amount to €6 billion, designated for Ukrainian-made drones, and would be disbursed no later than June. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also stated that the first «military» tranche of the €90 billion would be aimed at «domestic production for Ukraine's defense». Meanwhile, it became known that the EU might tighten the requirements for providing Ukraine with the €90 billion loan.
