Government Announces Fuel Support Scheme for Agriculture, Haulage, and Other Sectors

The Government is launching a fuel support scheme for agriculture, haulage, and other sectors, in response to recent protests. It offers financial aid to 120,000 farmers and contractors, providing an effective €274 reduction per 1,000 litres of green diesel.

The Government is announcing its fuel support scheme today, targeting the agriculture, quarries, haulage, construction, and fisheries sectors. This initiative responds to recent fuel protests.

The scheme will open for applications in mid-May, with payments covering March to July. Up to 120,000 farmers and 1,500 full-time agricultural contractors will receive aid. Combined with earlier excise cuts, this package offers an effective €274 reduction per 1,000 litres of green diesel.

Ministers Martin Heydon (Agriculture) and Darragh O'Brien (Transport) will provide further details at a press conference. The transport component of the package is estimated at €120 million over three months. The overall €500 million package was announced following large-scale protests three weeks ago.
