Simon Harris Criticized for Undetailed EV and Heat Pump Payment Announcement

Finance Minister Simon Harris is criticized for announcing potential one-off payments for EVs and heat pumps without details or a timeline. Green Party leader Roderic O’Gorman says this delays consumer investment, urging immediate clarity. Labour TD Ciarán Ahern also called for more action and fewer vague announcements.

Finance Minister Simon Harris faces criticism for announcing potential one-off payments for electric vehicles (EVs) and heat pumps without providing a timeline or details.

Green Party leader Roderic O’Gorman stated Harris has «pulled the rug» from under EV and heat pump sales. He argued that floating such ideas without quick follow-through causes consumers to delay investments until specific government supports are clear. O’Gorman emphasized the need for immediate clarity, noting consumers cannot wait until the October Budget.

Labour TD Ciarán Ahern echoed this, calling for «a little less conversation, and a little more action» from the Tánaiste, criticizing Harris for «flying kites» about various potential schemes without concrete plans. Concerns were raised that Harris's announcement could negatively impact the current uptake of existing incentives.
