Anthropic's Mythos AI Reveals 30-Year Software Bugs; Ireland's Financial Sector Vulnerable
Anthropic's Mythos AI, available to select companies, has uncovered 30-year-old software bugs in financial services, prompting widespread updates. A Security Scorecard report reveals Ireland's financial institutions are highly vulnerable to cyber breaches, often through third and fourth-party connections.
Anthropic's new AI model, Mythos, is reportedly so powerful it is only available to a few dozen companies. It efficiently finds bugs in computer code, posing risks to the global financial system. The Economist reported Mythos identified bugs in financial services software that had been undiscovered for nearly 30 years, leading to anticipated widespread software updates.
A Security Scorecard report assessed the top 100 European financial institutions. Ireland, Italy, and Switzerland have the highest proportion of C-rated institutions, making them five times more likely to suffer a cybersecurity breach than A-rated companies. The report highlights that 96% of companies were indirectly affected by breaches through third-party relationships and 97% through fourth-party relationships, emphasizing the need for robust IT defense despite the impossibility of foolproof systems.
