Poland Prevents Circulation of 360 Million Counterfeit Euros, Part Destined for Ukraine
Poland arrested four members of a group planning to produce up to 360 million counterfeit euros. A portion of these fakes was intended for Ukraine. Two detainees were remanded in custody, while others were released on bail.
The Internal Security Agency of Poland (ABW) has apprehended four members of a criminal group that planned to produce and circulate counterfeit euro banknotes totaling up to 360 million euros. A significant portion of these forgeries was intended for the Ukrainian market.
During the operation, ABW officers entered premises equipped with a professional banknote production line. On site, three tons of special paper and security features were seized, which could have been used to produce counterfeits worth the stated amount. Trial banknotes, used to test the effectiveness of security features, particularly in ATMs, were also discovered. Additionally, cash in other currencies, collectible coins, as well as weapons and ammunition were confiscated.
The detainees have been charged with participation in an organized criminal group and counterfeiting money. At the prosecutor's request, the court ordered a three-month pre-trial detention for two individuals. The remaining individuals were released on bail, placed under police supervision, and prohibited from leaving the country. The perpetrators face up to 25 years in prison.
