Zaporizhzhia NPP Lost External Power for 15th Time on April 26, Switched to Diesel Generators
On April 26, the Zaporizhzhia NPP lost external power for the 15th time due to the disconnection of the «Ferroalloys-1» line. The plant operated on 19 diesel generators for 1.5 hours. This incident heightens nuclear risks and underscores the necessity of returning the ZNPP to Ukrainian control.
The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) once again lost its external power supply on April 26, marking the fifteenth blackout incident since its occupation. The «Ferroalloys-1» power transmission line was disconnected, causing the plant to enter a blackout mode.
For an hour and a half, the ZNPP was powered by 19 backup diesel generators. Each such incident significantly increases the risks to nuclear and radiation safety not only for Ukraine but for all of Europe.
This situation once again confirms the urgent need for the swift return of the plant under the full control of Ukraine and its legitimate operator, «Energoatom». This is the only guarantee for the safe operation of Europe's largest nuclear power plant.
