Fianna Fáil Support Steady Amid Fuel Protest Fallout; Independent Ireland Reaches Record High

A new poll shows Fianna Fáil's support is steady despite fuel protest fallout, while Independent Ireland reached a record 7% support. Coalition government support dropped to 32%, with Fine Gael at a historic low of 16%. A significant 83% of adults now foresee economic decline in Ireland over the next six months.

Support for Fianna Fáil has remained stable despite the repercussions from the government's handling of recent fuel protests, while Independent Ireland has emerged as a significant beneficiary, according to a new Sunday Business Post/Red C poll.

The poll indicates that overall support for the coalition government has declined to 32%. Fine Gael, led by Simon Harris, experienced a two-point drop, reaching a historic low of 16%. In contrast, Independent Ireland gained an additional two points, bringing its support to a record high of 7%. This rural-focused party was notably active in the fuel protests. Sinn Féin, which also supported the protests, saw a one-point increase, now polling at 25%.

Support levels for other political parties remained unchanged: Independents at 12%, Social Democrats at 8%, Aontú at 6%, the Labour Party at 4%, the Green Party at 3%, and People Before Profit/Solidarity at 3%.

More significantly, the poll reveals a substantial increase in the number of adults who anticipate Ireland will face economic decline over the next six months. Eighty-three percent now hold this belief, a considerable jump from the 59% who expressed similar concerns in the previous quarter.
