12,656 Civil Service Candidates Received Incorrect Scores on April 1
12,656 civil service candidates received incorrect scores and rankings on April 1 due to an «administrative error» by the Public Appointments Service. The error affected Clerical Officer roles, stemming from mismatched scenario questions and scoring keys. PAS is correcting scores and reviewing processes to prevent recurrence.
The Public Appointments Service (PAS) informed 12,656 civil service candidates on April 1 that they had received incorrect scores and rankings due to an «administrative error» on publicjobs.ie. This error affected the order-of-merit rankings for Clerical Officer roles, determining job offers.
PAS apologized, stating the issue involved two of six new scenario questions on the application form not updating as intended. The scoring key applied was for the intended questions, not the ones candidates actually answered, leading to incorrect scores and merit order for selected locations. The issue is resolved, rescoring is underway, and updated rankings will be provided. A review will be conducted to prevent future errors.
