Emerald Airlines Delays Summer Schedule Launch Due to ATR Component Shortage

Emerald Airlines, Aer Lingus Regional operator, delayed its summer schedule launch to late April/early May from late March due to maintenance issues and a shortage of ATR components. This impacts routes between Ireland and Britain. The delay follows Aer Lingus cancelling 430 flights, while global jet fuel supply faces pressure from the Strait of Hormuz closure.

Emerald Airlines, operator of Aer Lingus Regional, has postponed the launch of its peak summer flying schedule from late March to late April or early May. This delay is attributed to maintenance issues, specifically a holdup in receiving necessary components from aircraft manufacturer ATR for repairs identified during checks.

Emerald Airlines operates routes primarily between Ireland and Britain under the Aer Lingus flag since 2023. An internal memo indicates the problem should be resolved within weeks, with no current plans to reduce capacity over the summer due to the ongoing fuel crisis. This delay follows Aer Lingus dropping 430 flights for the peak season, also citing maintenance issues.

The global jet fuel supply remains under pressure, partly due to the Strait of Hormuz closure linked to the US-Israel conflict with Iran, despite a ceasefire extension. Europe imports approximately 40% of its jet fuel, with half passing through Hormuz. The European Commission has introduced measures to ease pressure, including asking member states to hold and redistribute stocks. Airlines for Europe welcomed this initiative. Ryanair and Aer Lingus have hedged much of their fuel needs for the year, protecting customers from rising oil prices, though Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary noted continued Middle East conflict could impact supplies.
