Sasha Leaves Idaho After 9 Years, Moves to Ireland Seeking Peace
Sasha, an American who spent nine years in Idaho, recently moved to Ireland. She built her own house in Idaho, but felt a pull toward something she couldn't name and realized the house was the only thing keeping her there. Her mother's family left Ireland in the 1860s, and her mother married a French man. Sasha grew up between two worlds, working hard in corporate America, which she felt robbed her of life's joys.
Sasha felt betrayed by the current state of the US, particularly the political climate. She visited Ireland a year ago and felt at ease, deciding to move. She sold her house in Idaho after a nine-month process, packed five suitcases, and brought her two dogs.
Now in Ireland for just over three weeks, Sasha feels she's discovering life without the fear she grew up with in the US. She acknowledges Ireland's housing crisis but prefers dealing with its challenges over those in the US, particularly the absence of guns. She's living in a short-term rental near the sea and documenting her journey on social media, searching for housing along the DART line, close to the sea, but far from US food chains.
