Swedish PM Ulf Kristersson Considers Fuel Rationing Due to War with Iran

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson stated that the country is considering the possibility of introducing fuel rationing if the war with Iran becomes protracted. His words were quoted by n-tv, as reported by «European Pravda».

Kristersson noted that due to the «significant impact» of the war with Iran on the country's economy, the Swedish government is considering such a measure. At the same time, he emphasized that fuel rationing is not currently planned. «However, we are prepared for such a scenario and, if necessary, will announce it in a timely manner,» the Prime Minister assured.

According to Kristersson, the war's impact on the Swedish economy has recently intensified: what was initially a «limited impact» has turned into a «significant one.» He warned of the risk of increased inflation and slowed economic growth.

Against this backdrop, the Greek government recently announced a support package for the population worth 500 million euros, to be financed from the budget surplus. The European Commission on April 22 unveiled an EU-level package of measures to combat the energy crisis caused by the war in the Middle East. It was also reported that France will spend approximately 180 million euros in May on support measures related to high fuel prices.
