SEAI One Stop Shop Simplifies Home Energy Upgrades and Grant Applications
The SEAI One Stop Shop simplifies home energy upgrades by connecting homeowners with preapproved contractors. These contractors manage projects from assessment to grant applications, ensuring quality and maximizing grant benefits. Homeowners pay a discounted price, with grants disbursed to contractors post-inspection.
The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland’s (SEAI) One Stop Shop service streamlines home energy efficiency improvements. It provides access to preapproved contractors who manage entire retrofitting projects, from initial assessment to grant applications and follow-up building energy ratings (BER).
These registered contractors offer comprehensive home energy upgrade solutions, including insulation and heat pump installations, and can also undertake additional building works like rewiring, replumbing, kitchen/bathroom fit-outs, room modifications, or extensions. The service handles grant applications, allowing homeowners to pay a discounted price while the contractor receives the grant after work passes inspection. This ensures quality control, though it may exclude smaller contractors.
Brian McIntyre, SEAI’s programme manager, notes that life changes or a desire to improve a «forever home» often drive full energy upgrades. Shane Toye, a consultant sales engineer at Mitsubishi Electric Ireland, emphasizes the importance of applying for grants before any work begins to ensure eligibility. The One Stop Shop is particularly beneficial for bundled energy upgrades that combine insulation, heat pumps, and ventilation systems, maximizing grant accessibility and improving BER.
