Waterford: Man Hospitalized, 3 Dogs Dead in Suspected 3 AM Arson

A man in his 50s was hospitalized and his three dogs died in a suspected arson attack at a house in the Larchville housing estate in Waterford early this morning. Gardaí and fire services were called to the scene shortly before 3am.

The man was taken to University Hospital Waterford for injuries believed to be non-life threatening. Gardaí are investigating reports of alleged criminal damage by fire using an incendiary device and are examining intimidation as a possible motive.

The scene is held for technical examination. Local councillor John Hearne urged anyone with information to contact gardaí, stating, "We are blessed nobody died," and "But for the poor man to lose his dogs, they were his life."
