Conrad Hotel Dublin Approved for 192-Room Expansion to 308 Total

Dublin City Council approved a major expansion for the five-star Conrad Hotel, increasing its rooms by 192 to 308. The plan includes new eight and seven-story extensions, with the hotel contributing €755,058 for public infrastructure. This follows a previous unfulfilled expansion plan.

Dublin City Council has granted planning permission to Earlsfort Centre Hotel Proprietors Ltd, operator of the five-star Conrad Hotel, for a significant expansion. The plan will increase the hotel’s room count by 192, from 192 to 308.

The expansion involves a new eight-story extension over existing event space, creating a 10-story building. It also includes a seventh-floor extension to Earlsfort Terrace and an additional floor to the existing hotel, resulting in a nine-story building with a setback to Earlsfort Terrace.

The council approved the proposal, concluding it would improve the hotel’s function and integrate visually into the urban fabric. As part of the 17 conditions, the Conrad hotel firm must pay a €755,058 development contribution for public infrastructure.

This approval follows a previous permission almost four years ago for a seven-story wing that would have increased rooms to 280, but that scheme did not progress due to viability concerns. Only one objection was lodged against the current plan by Cedrela Ltd, owner of nearby Dolmen House and St Stephen’s Green House, citing impact on future redevelopment potential.
