European Commission Executive Vice-President Teresa Ribera Calls Heatwave «Dramatic Warning»

European Commission Executive Vice-President Teresa Ribera called the European heatwave a «dramatic warning». She urged rejecting climate skeptics' lies and resisting fossil fuel industry pressure. Ribera emphasized that people desire a clean environment, not pollution.

European Commission Executive Vice-President for a Clean, Fair and Competitive Transition, Teresa Ribera, told The Guardian that the heatwave across Europe is a «dramatic warning» from nature. She emphasized the need to reject the lies of climate skeptics and those who attack the EU's «Green Deal».

Ribera criticized those who listen to the interests of the fossil fuel industry instead of scientists. She noted that what is happening was predictable, but humanity failed to address the root causes. Ribera accused «senseless and ideologically motivated nonsense» spread by interest groups of claiming that climate policy is unpopular.

She stressed that people want clean water, air, and healthy ecosystems. Ribera urged officials to use the heatwave to resist pressure from the fossil fuel industry and its supporters, who manipulate people for short-term gains.

In Germany, temperatures broke records for three consecutive days, leading to autobahn damage and tram service suspension in Leipzig. The Czech Republic recorded 41.1°C, and Poland saw 40.5°C, marking the highest temperature on record.
