Macron: US Confirms Support for Ukraine, Abandons Neutrality for First Time
French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the US has for the first time confirmed in writing its abandonment of neutrality in the war against Ukraine. This occurred at the G7 summit on June 16, where the US declared support for Ukraine's territorial integrity, military and energy aid, and sanctions against Russia.
French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the United States of America has for the first time confirmed in writing its renunciation of the role of a neutral mediator in the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. Macron made this statement during a briefing at the France-Italy summit held in Antibes.
According to Macron, the meeting of G7 leaders in Evian facilitated a significant convergence of partners' positions. He emphasized that, regarding Ukraine, the US for the first time documented in text that they are no longer neutral mediators but, along with other states, support Ukraine's territorial integrity. This support includes military and energy assistance, as well as the application of sanctions against Russia.
This statement was preceded by a trilateral meeting of Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine, Donald Trump of the USA, and Emmanuel Macron of France, which took place on June 16 on the sidelines of the G7 summit in France.
