Tusla and IFCA Launch 'My Fostering Journey' Programme for Foster Families
Tusla and IFCA launched 'My Fostering Journey', a new programme supporting families with foster children in Ireland. It highlights the crucial role of biological children in foster families. The initiative, updated from an older IFCA programme, addresses various aspects of foster care.
Tusla and the Irish Foster Care Association (IFCA) have launched 'My Fostering Journey', a new support programme for families with children who take in foster children across Ireland. The programme ensures the voices of biological children, known as «children who foster», are represented, acknowledging their role in welcoming children in care.
More than 100 people, including 50 children and young people from foster families nationwide, gathered in Dublin for the launch. The programme, an update of an IFCA initiative from over two decades ago, aligns with the National Fostering Strategy.
It covers topics such as why children need foster families, the impact of trauma on behavior, culture and diversity in foster care, and cyber safety. As of late 2025, Ireland had 5,879 children in care, with 88% in foster care living with 3,782 foster carers.
