Irish Internet Hotline Designated «Trusted Flagger» Under EU Digital Services Act
The Irish Internet Hotline has been designated a «Trusted Flagger» under the EU’s Digital Services Act by Comisiún na Meán. This status requires platforms to prioritize its reports on illegal online content, especially child sexual abuse material. The designation formalizes the hotline’s nearly three decades of expertise.
The Irish Internet Hotline has been officially designated as a «Trusted Flagger» under the European Union’s Digital Services Act (DSA) by Comisiún na Meán. This designation recognizes the hotline as an independent entity responsible for identifying and reporting illegal online content.
Under the DSA, online platforms are mandated to prioritize and process notices submitted by Trusted Flaggers without undue delay. The Irish Internet Hotline, established in 1999, plays a crucial role in combating illegal online content, with a primary focus on child sexual abuse material, alongside other forms of illicit content within its jurisdiction.
Mick Moran, CEO of the Irish Internet Hotline, stated, «The designation reflects the expertise and experience our team has developed in identifying and reporting illegal content within our areas of competency.» He added that «Trusted Flagger status formalises an approach we’ve already been taking for nearly three decades and strengthens our ability to ensure that high-quality reports are prioritised and acted on appropriately.»
The Irish Internet Hotline serves as Ireland’s national reporting center, providing a secure and anonymous avenue for the public to report suspected illegal and harmful online content, particularly child sexual abuse material.
