Ireland's Covid-19 Pandemic Evaluation to Conclude This Year, Report Due 2027

Ireland's Covid-19 pandemic evaluation will conclude this year, with Taoiseach Micheál Martin having met the panel. The report, due in early 2027, will assess the response from January 2020 to February 2022 to inform future decisions.

Ireland's evaluation of its Covid-19 pandemic response is set to conclude its work before the end of this year, Cabinet has been informed. Taoiseach Micheál Martin met with the evaluation panel this week for an in-depth discussion about his role leading the government during the pandemic from June 2020 to February 2022.

The panel, chaired by Prof Anne Scott, is examining responses across hospitals, the community, and nursing homes, as well as wider economic and societal impacts. Its aim is to provide a factual account from January 2020 to February 2022 to identify lessons and guide future decisions. The panel lacks statutory powers to compel document release or witness attendance, opting for a non-confrontational approach.

After three public consultations, a progress update will be published this week. The final comprehensive report, prioritizing key guidelines, is expected to be published in early 2027. Tánaiste Simon Harris will also engage with the panel.
