Applicants from nearly every county on the island of Ireland will formally declare their fidelity and loyalty to the State as they officially acquire Irish citizenship.

Five ceremonies will take place over the two days in Killarney, County Kerry. Judge Paddy McMahon will serve as the Presiding Officer, conferring Irish citizenship upon attendees and administering the Declaration of Fidelity to the Irish Nation and Loyalty to the State. The new citizens will pledge to faithfully observe the laws of the State and uphold its democratic values.

Minister of State with responsibility for Migration, Colm Brophy, is attending today's proceedings. Minister Brophy emphasized that «Irish citizenship embodies freedom—the freedom to fully participate in society, to vote, to shape the future of one's community, and to raise a family with security and belonging.» He added, «It also entails responsibility, including respecting the rule of law, contributing to the common good, and defending the values that underpin our republic.» Minister Brophy extended his congratulations and best wishes to all participants in today's opening ceremony.
