Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow High Temperature warning for Ireland, forecasting temperatures exceeding 27C in the coming days. The warning will be active from 12 PM tomorrow until 9 AM on Friday.
The forecaster has cautioned about potential water safety issues due to increased public use of lakes and beaches, as well as uncomfortable sleeping conditions and the risk of heat stress. Maximum daytime temperatures are expected to surpass 27C, with nighttime temperatures remaining above 15C.
Senior Forecaster Gerry Murphy described the upcoming period as a «short, sharp burst of heat» for the week. He anticipates highs of 29C on Wednesday and 31C on Thursday across the country. Mr. Murphy also highlighted the importance of being aware of elevated nighttime temperatures, which could range from 13-18C, potentially reaching 19-20C on Thursday night, leading to discomfort.
He advised the public to stay fully hydrated, exercise caution near waterways, and seek shade. There is a possibility of thundery showers moving north from the south on Thursday, which, if they materialize, could cap temperatures and lead to a revision of Thursday's forecast. By Friday, temperatures are expected to decrease to the high teens or low 20s, with more unsettled weather conditions.
