Gardaí Seize Over 1,000 E-Scooters, E-Bikes in Q1 2026, Surpassing All 2025 Figures
Gardaí seized 1,005 e-scooters, e-bikes, and scramblers in the first three months of 2026, exceeding the 931 cases from all of 2025. This surge indicates a fourfold increase in seizures for 2026, driven by an intelligence-led operation targeting electric vehicles in crime.
Gardaí seized or detained more than 1,000 e-scooters, e-bikes, and scramblers within the first three months of 2026. This figure significantly surpasses the 931 similar cases recorded throughout the entirety of 2025, indicating a substantial increase in enforcement actions.
The newly released statistics reveal that from January to the end of March this year, a total of 1,005 seizures or detainments occurred. These incidents included 754 e-scooters, 140 e-bikes, 94 scramblers, and 17 quad bikes. This trend suggests that 2026 is on pace to record four times the number of e-scooter, e-bike, and other motorized vehicle seizures or detainments compared to the previous year.
This initiative is part of an ongoing, intelligence-led garda operation specifically targeting the use of electric vehicles in both organized and opportunistic crime.
