Doctor Thought Parnell Square Stabbing Victim Was Dead, Court Hears

Dr. Mike Boyle testified that a child stabbed in Parnell Square on November 23, 2023, had no pulse and appeared dead. He detailed emergency efforts to save her, while Garda Ian Walsh presented the 36cm knife used in the attack. Riad Bouchaker, 52, denies attempted murder and assault charges.

Dr. Mike Boyle, head of neo-natal at Rotunda Hospital, testified in the trial of Riad Bouchaker, 52, who denies attempting to murder three children and assaulting four others in the November 2023 Parnell Square stabbings. Dr. Boyle stated that upon arriving at the scene on November 23, 2023, around 1:50 PM, he found a critically injured girl with no pulse, appearing «grey», and undergoing chest compressions. He believed she was dead.

Dr. Boyle recounted mobilizing blood from the laboratory and rushing the girl to Temple Street children’s hospital for stabilization, bypassing standard protocols. He requested an operating theatre be prepared and asked a colleague to contact Mater Hospital for a heart surgeon, as Temple Street lacked one. Garda Ian Walsh also testified, presenting the 36cm knife retrieved from the scene to the court.
