Keir Starmer Comments on Conviction of Ukrainian Lavrynovych and Romanian Carpiuc for Arson in May 2025
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer commented on the conviction of Ukrainian Roman Lavrynovych and Romanian Stanislav Carpiuc for arson of property linked to him. He called it an attempt to destabilize democracy and cause division. The case involves arsons in North London last May.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that the trial of two individuals for arson of property linked to him demonstrates attempts to destabilize democracy and cause division in the country. Starmer's words are quoted by The Guardian, as reported by «European Pravda».
The Prime Minister commented on the trial, which found 22-year-old Ukrainian Roman Lavrynovych and 27-year-old Romanian Stanislav Carpiuc guilty of conspiracy to commit arson in May 2025. Starmer noted that the attack on the house undoubtedly affected him and his family. The Prime Minister added that this situation demonstrates that the United Kingdom is under attack from malicious actors who seek to «exploit division» and «destabilize our democracy».
He accused some politicians and other figures of being «more than happy to indulge in the tearing apart of our country». At the same time, according to Starmer, there are also actors from outside Britain who are «trying to find ways to exploit division in our country to destabilize our democracy». The case concerns several arsons that occurred last May in North London, involving a house and a car linked to the British Prime Minister. On May 11, an apartment building where the head of the British government once lived was set on fire, and on May 12, another fire occurred at the entrance to the house where Starmer resided before becoming Prime Minister.
During the months-long trial at the Old Bailey, it was revealed that the suspects acted with the financial assistance of an individual under the pseudonym «El Money». Law enforcement officials noted that the unknown person communicated with the suspects in Russian. Media reported that one of the suspects in the arson, Roman Lavrynovych, might have been recruited by Russian special services via the Telegram application.
