German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced Germany will allocate $400 million to Ukraine for air defense and Patriot missiles. The funds will be channeled through the PURL and Jumpstart mechanisms. Berlin urges partners to contribute to financing to strengthen Ukraine's air defense.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced that his country is joining the PURL mechanism for the fourth time, which funds the procurement of American weapons and ammunition. He made this statement in Brussels during a conversation with journalists before a meeting of NATO defense ministers, as reported by a correspondent for «European Pravda».
According to Pistorius, Germany will allocate $200 million for «necessary ammunition for air defense systems.» He emphasized that in this way, «we are literally saving human lives every night and every day.» Additionally, Germany will support the Jumpstart program, which involves the procurement of PAC-3 guided missiles for Patriot systems, by allocating another $200 million for this purpose. «Thus, we are moving forward,» stressed the head of the German Ministry of Defense.
Pistorius also called on other members of the Contact Group to join in financing the procurement of PAC-3 missiles to strengthen Ukraine's air defense. Previously, G7 leaders expressed readiness to consider providing licenses for the production of interceptor missiles directly in Ukraine. The Dutch government has also committed to purchasing drones and air defense equipment for Ukraine totaling 500 million euros, half of which will be allocated through the PURL program.
