Netherlands Pledges $590 Million Military Aid to Ukraine for Drones, Air Defense

The Netherlands will provide $590 million in military aid to Ukraine, split between drone production and the PURL air defense initiative. This support, announced by Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, reinforces Ukraine's defense capabilities and European security.

The Netherlands will provide $590 million in military aid to Ukraine, as announced by Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov after meeting with Dutch counterpart Dilan Yeşilgöz-Zegerius in The Hague.

The aid package includes $295 million for drone production and $295 million for the PURL American air defense initiative to acquire anti-ballistic missiles. The Netherlands previously contributed €500 million to PURL when it launched in August 2025, reaching a €1 billion total with subsequent contributions.

The $295 million for drone production will fund procurement from the Dutch defense industry, supporting the Build with Ukraine framework. This initiative allows Ukrainian defense companies to establish production facilities in NATO partner countries, protecting them from Russian strikes and enhancing NATO's industrial capacity. The Netherlands had already committed €200 million in October 2025 for joint drone defense and production, and signed contracts in June 2025 to produce 600,000 drones for Ukraine under the Drone Line initiative.

Yeşilgöz-Zegerius highlighted that Ukraine's defense forces are safeguarding European security, stating, «it is we who must thank you» for fighting for Ukraine's freedom and the security of all Europe, including the Netherlands. She also pledged continued advocacy for increased assistance to Ukraine among European allies.
