Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov discussed procuring PAC-3 missiles for Patriots with Canadian Defense Minister David McGuinty. Ukraine uses these missiles to intercept Russian ballistic missiles, receiving them via the US-led PURL initiative, funded by allies.
Canada's PURL contributions total approximately $637 million since August 2025, with overall military assistance to Ukraine exceeding $6.5 billion since February 2022. Fedorov also thanked Canada for AIM-9 missiles for F-16s, delivered with Belgian logistical support.
They explored purchasing PAC-3 missiles through JUMPSTART, a German-funded mechanism. Fedorov urged Canada to expand investments in Ukrainian defense technologies via the «Danish model», to which Canada committed an additional $50 million in February 2026, bringing its total to approximately $190 million. Discussions also covered long-range artillery ammunition via the Czech Initiative, diesel pickup trucks, and joint defense-industrial projects.
Fedorov, appointed Defense Minister on January 14, 2026, focuses on technological transformation, including the ePoints procurement system, which supplied 181,000 drones and tools to frontline units in 2026.
