EU to Focus on Illicit Arms Trafficking and Demining Under «Fourth Pillar» of Security Guarantees for Ukraine

The EU, under the «fourth pillar» of security guarantees for Ukraine, will focus on combating illicit arms trafficking, demining, and supporting veterans. This issue was discussed after EU ministers' visit to Ukraine. The guarantees also include establishing training centers.

The European Union, as part of the «fourth pillar» of security guarantees for Ukraine to be provided after the cessation of hostilities, will focus on addressing the problem of illicit trafficking in small arms and light weapons, as well as demining.

This was reported by a high-ranking EU official on condition of anonymity. This issue, along with support for Ukrainian veterans, came to the agenda after the visit of EU foreign ministers to Ukraine. Initiatives for reintegration and PTSD treatment are already being implemented.

EU chief diplomat Kaja Kallas presented the «fourth pillar» of future security guarantees on April 21 in Luxembourg. The EU also plans to establish two military training centers in Ukraine. President Zelenskyy previously stated that the security guarantees should enshrine the date of Ukraine's accession to the EU.
