Britain to Announce Sanctions on 600 Russian «Shadow Fleet» Vessels and 2-Year Fuel Deal for Ukraine's NPPs

Britain will announce new sanctions against Russia, targeting over 600 «shadow fleet» and LNG tanker vessels. An agreement to supply fuel for Ukrainian NPPs for two years will also be concluded. This aims to increase pressure on Russia and ensure Ukraine's energy security.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will announce on June 18 new energy sanctions against Russia and an agreement to supply fuel for Ukrainian nuclear power plants for the next two years. This will take place during a meeting with partners at the G7 summit.

Britain's sanctions package will target Russia's «shadow fleet», financial networks used to circumvent sanctions, and the arming of Russian armed forces. It will include an embargo on a number of vessels transporting sanctioned Russian liquefied natural gas. The number of sanctioned «shadow fleet» vessels and Russian LNG carriers is expected to increase to over 600. The new measures will also expose a network linked to the Russian state involved in the clandestine acquisition of Western technologies, as well as third-country suppliers helping Russia illegally move funds.

Starmer welcomed the agreement, under which the British company Urenco will supply enriched uranium to Ukraine's «Energoatom», funded by UK Export Finance with £210 million. This agreement was concluded between Starmer and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The British Prime Minister noted that Russia's aggression threatens not only Ukraine but also the security of all Europe, which is why the UK is stepping up its actions by cutting off revenues fueling the war and providing Ukraine with energy.
