Ukraine Included in EU Cybersecurity Reserve: Emergency Support Available
Ukraine has been included in the EU Cybersecurity Reserve, granting it access to emergency support for responding to large-scale cyber incidents. This decision strengthens common defense and affirms the EU's solidarity with Ukraine in countering cyber threats.
The Council of the European Union has approved Ukraine's inclusion in the bloc's Cybersecurity Reserve, allowing the country to activate emergency EU support for responding to large-scale cyber incidents. This was announced by the European Commission, as reported by «European Pravda».
The Reserve, managed by the EU Agency for Network and Information Security (ENISA), provides incident response services from trusted private providers to assist states in addressing significant or large-scale cyber incidents. This decision is part of broader efforts by the European Commission aimed at ensuring that the EU and its partners can effectively counter cyber threats through readiness, rapid response, and knowledge sharing. Moldova was included in the Reserve in 2024 in accordance with the Cyber Solidarity Act.
Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for Technological Sovereignty, Security, and Democracy, stated: «By admitting Ukraine to the EU Cybersecurity Reserve, we strengthen our common defense and reaffirm the principle of solidarity that underpins Europe's digital future. At a time when cyberattacks pose a constant threat, our unity is our greatest asset».
It is worth recalling that in May 2023, Ukraine officially joined the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (CCDCOE), where the Ukrainian flag was raised near the center's headquarters.
