Two Men Arrested After Racially Motivated Attack on Belfast Home with Children
Two men have been arrested in Belfast after a racially motivated attack on a home with children inside, injuring two. The PSNI is treating it as a hate crime, following recent unrest and anti-racism demonstrations in the city.
Police in Belfast have arrested two men following a racially motivated attack on a home in the southern area of the city during the early hours of this morning. The incident occurred shortly before 1:10 AM when a group of men approached a house in the Donegall Avenue area, shouting aggressively before confronting residents inside the property. A woman and several young children were present in the house at the time, and two individuals sustained injuries.
Authorities believe that multiple weapons were used during the assault, which also resulted in damage to a car parked outside. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has confirmed that the incident is being investigated as a racially motivated hate crime. The two arrested men, aged in their 20s and 40s, are currently in custody on suspicion of several related offenses.
This attack follows several days of unrest and anti-racism demonstrations in Belfast earlier this week. These events were sparked by a serious knife attack on Monday, which led to riots and a series of racially motivated incidents across the city, resulting in 19 arrests. Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with CCTV or doorbell footage to assist with their ongoing inquiries into the Donegall Avenue incident.
