Farage Vows to Deport Foreign Nationals from UK Social Housing Amid Makerfield By-election

Nigel Farage plans to ban foreign nationals from social housing and deport those without private accommodation, ahead of the Makerfield by-election. His Reform UK party is competing with Rupert Lowe’s Restore Britain, as polls show a split in the right-wing vote. Farage also aims to abolish the Equality Act and cap foreign doctor recruitment.

Nigel Farage announced plans to ban foreign nationals from social housing and deport those unable to secure private accommodation after a three-month grace period. This hardline stance comes ahead of the Makerfield by-election, where his Reform UK party faces competition from the far-right Restore Britain, led by former Reform MP Rupert Lowe.

In a Substack essay, Farage stated that Reform would prioritize veterans and long-term local residents for social housing. He also criticized diversity, equity, and inclusion policies as «social cleansing» and confirmed Reform’s intent to abolish the UK’s Equality Act, advocating for meritocracy in employment. Farage proposed capping foreign doctor recruitment and ensuring meritocratic university admissions to prevent white students from being «squeezed.»

Recent polls in Makerfield indicate a split in the right-wing vote. A Times poll showed Labour’s Andy Burnham at 45%, Reform at 40%, and Restore at 8%. Another by Convergence reported Burnham at 49%, Reform at 37%, and Restore at 5%. The Mail on Sunday endorsed Reform, while also reporting that Restore is backed by activists who attended a neo-Nazi summit. Rupert Lowe dismissed these reports as an attempt to undermine Restore’s success.
