US Provides Military Escort for 7 Million Barrels of Oil Daily Through Strait of Hormuz

The US provides military escort for vessels transporting 7 million barrels of oil daily through the Strait of Hormuz. Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated this helps control energy prices and prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. The volume of shipments is half of pre-war levels.

The United States of America provides military escort for vessels transporting approximately 7 million barrels of oil and petroleum products daily through the Strait of Hormuz. This was stated by US Energy Secretary Chris Wright during the Bloomberg Energy Security Executive Briefing in Houston, as reported by Politico and «European Pravda».

According to Wright, this volume represents approximately half of what passed through the Strait of Hormuz before February. He noted that before the war, about 20 million barrels of oil passed through the strait daily. Approximately 5 million of this volume was redirected to pipelines and other modes of transport, while global production increased by about 1 million barrels. «Today's volumes are approaching half of that deficit, and they are growing,» the minister added.

Wright emphasized that the naval escort demonstrates the Donald Trump administration's achievement of dual goals: controlling energy prices and simultaneously preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. It is worth noting that the US Central Command previously reported that Iran launched several drones at commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

Earlier, President Trump stated that an agreement with Iran could be signed this weekend in Europe, and Iran's Foreign Minister confirmed that the agreement was «closer than ever.» The US President also announced the cancellation of planned strikes on Iran, as negotiating teams had approved the «final points» of the agreement.
