Meath Creche Reports 204 Room Closures Since October Due to Staff Shortages

A Meath creche operated by Tigers Childcare has experienced 204 room closures since October due to staff shortages, causing immense stress for families and impacting children. Parents have been refunded, but the situation forced job changes and reliance on extended family. Tigers Childcare acknowledges the issue, citing recruitment challenges, and is actively hiring with increased pay.

Parents at a creche in Enfield, Meath, operated by Tigers Childcare, report 204 room closures across 176 operational days since October. These closures, often lasting a week, are primarily due to staff shortages and have caused significant stress for families, impacting children's socialisation and toilet training.

One mother changed jobs to work remotely due to frequent closures, while another left a job she loved because her company required four in-office days, which was impossible with unreliable childcare. Another family with three children has covered 65 days of childcare leave or relied on grandparents since October. Parents have received refunds for closed days, and more closures are anticipated.

Tigers Childcare, which runs over 30 creches and was recently acquired by UK group Kids Planet Day Nurseries, confirmed the issues. CEO Karen Clince stated that Enfield has been disproportionately affected by ongoing recruitment and retention challenges. The company is actively recruiting and has increased pay scales, prioritising staffing ratios and safeguarding standards.
